A Quiet Undertaking by Penny Warner. ISBN: 0553579657. Life is never dull in the California Gold Country town of Flat Skunk. Baby, I'm Yours by Susan Andersen. ISBN: 0380795116. Heroine is a hearing daughter of deaf parents. She's also a teacher for the Deaf. ASL plays a part in the plot and there is a minor deaf character in the story. A romantic novel.

Dead Body Language by Penny Warner. ISBN: 0553575864. Thirty-seven year old journalist, Connor Westphal, has relocated from San Francisco to Flat Skunk, a mining-turned-tourist town in the foothills of the Sierras, to start up her own weekly paper. Suddenly, dead bodies begin turning up in the most unusual places, setting Connor on a hunt for a killer. You might say Connor has a sixth sense when it comes to investigating...but she only has four of the usual five senses. Connor Westphal is deaf. But being hearing impaired doesn't stop Connor from pursuing the murderer. Without sound to distract her, she attends to subtleties that others overlook and ultimately unravels the mystery. 

For the Sake of Elena by Elizabeth George. ISBN: 0553561278. The murder victim was deaf and her deafness is the key to why she was murdered.  Takes place in England.  There are some other deaf characters and some exploration of the Deaf/oral conflict.

Havana Heat: A Novel by Darryl Brock. ISBN: 189212923X. The novel's main character and narrator is Luther "Dummy" Taylor, who pitched for the NY Giants in the early years of the last century. The story takes place in 1911. One of the main elements in the story concerns Taylor's relationship with a deaf Cuban boy.

Right to Remain Silent by Penny Warner. ISBN: 0553579622. Deaf journalist Connor Westphal just broke a huge story for her California Gold Country newspaper, the "Eureka!" Old Sparkle Bodie has finally passed away--only to send local tongues wagging by coming back to life at the funeral home! Rushed to the hospital, Sparkle is dead again within the hour. But this time, someone's used a pillow to smother any chance of a resurrection.

Since losing his voice, Father Marbury has been pastor of a hearing-impaired congregation among whom unusual healings have occurred. It seems the silent priest is performing miracles, and that the modern church won't countenance.

Voices of Chaos (Book 6 of the Starbridge series) by A.C. Crispin ISBN: 0441005160.

What the Deaf-Mute Heard by G. D. Gearino. ISBN: 0671020730. A funny, chilling, and heart-breaking novel about an outcast in a small Southern town who quietly manipulates the town's events and the lives of everyone around him--and ultimately orchestrates an outcome even he could not have foreseen.
